Babe Ruth - Kid's Staff (1976)

The end of the line for Babe Ruth. The hints of progressive rock and jazz that lurked within their previous albums are pretty much gone, as is their fine lead singer Jenny Haann, and the results are uninspiring.

The sing-song lyrics of "Welcome to the Show" and the disco rhythm of "Since You Went Away" are no help, either.

Without the power to sustain their old fans and the novelty to bring in new ones, they've painted themselves into a corner.

Still, the band manages a last hurrah by closing out with the rousing "Keep Your Distance" and the smoldering blues of "Living a Lie." (by Paul Collins)
