Leo Wright Combo - Modern Jazz Studio No 4 (1965)

A lost set of European soul jazz – played by a group headed up by American reedman Leo Wright, and featuring piano, guitar, bass, and drums by some lesser known Eastern European players! The feel here is a bit rougher and darker than some of Wright's American work from the time – more in the mode of a Prestige soul jazz set, with Leo blowing mean lines on flute and alto, and the guitar in the group giving the tunes a nice bluesy sort of edge. The album's got a great original track called "Bloody Blues", plus cool arrangements of "Work Song" and "Soulville". (by dustygroove)

This really rare session was recorded live in Dresden, March 10, 1965 for Amiga Records (the one and only label in the German Democratic Republic). There is another album from this concert, called "Flöte + Alt-Sax". And it´s fantastic opportunity to listen to Leo Wright and great musicians like Candy Green &
